Poly Film Filters Explained: FLÄRN, SOLVA, BRÖKK, VYLUR & GRÅLT
8 min read · Filters
Poly's classic film pack includes five distinct emulations, each modeled after a different analog tradition. A separate Weird Film pack adds five experimental looks. Unlike generic "vintage" presets, these filters are tuned for the polaroid frame and meant to be chosen before you shoot — not after.
FLÄRN — Kodachrome contrast
Bold and punchy. FLÄRN lifts shadows and pushes saturated reds and blues — perfect for travel, architecture, and street photography in clear daylight. If you want your polaroids to pop off the screen, start here.
SOLVA — warm Ektar-like tones
Golden skin tones, creamy highlights, and a gentle amber cast. SOLVA is the go-to for portraits, food, and late-afternoon outdoor scenes. It flatters almost everything and feels unmistakably "summer on film."
BRÖKK — faded SX-70 character
Soft, dreamy, and a little unpredictable — like a well-loved Polaroid SX-70 pack that sat in the sun. BRÖKK mutes contrast and adds gentle fade to the edges. Use it for interiors, rainy days, and nostalgic snapshots where imperfection is the point.
VYLUR — cross-processed cyan & purple
Experimental and moody. VYLUR shifts shadows toward teal and purple, giving nightlife, neon signs, and urban scenes an editorial edge. It is the most stylized of the five — use it when you want your polaroid to feel like art, not documentation.
GRÅLT — silver gelatin black & white
Rich monochrome with smooth midtones and deep blacks. GRÅLT strips away color distraction so composition and light do the talking. Ideal for portraits, minimalist scenes, and anything where texture matters more than hue.
Weird Film pack — experimental looks
Beyond the classic five, Poly's Weird Film pack adds five experimental filters: LÖMUR (thermal), DREKI (infrared), SKRÍM (VHS horror), FROSINN (cyanotype), and NÓTT (night vision). Reach for these when you want surreal color science — concerts, neon alleys, foggy mornings — rather than a faithful film homage.
Colorful frame packs
Each emulation pairs with Poly's colorful polaroid frame packs — mix and match border colors to complement or contrast your subject. Premium unlocks the full set of filters and frames; try a few combinations on the same scene to see how the frame changes the emotional read of a shot.
